Payment of Wages Act

The Payment of Wages Act gives employees three specific rights. The first is a right to be paid in one of a number of specified ways, including payment in cash, by cheque or by electronic funds transfer. The second right provided to employees by the Act is the right to wage slips detailing their gross salaries, net salaries and the sums deducted from their wages. Finally, the Act provides that employers may not make deductions from an employee’s wages unless that deduction is required by law (e.g. tax) or is mandated by the employment contract.
